SDNK Home Kitchen
SDNK Home Kitchen is a brand-new home catering business based in Tameside, where chef Denzil Ruwanpura creates delicious Sri Lankan food for local customers. From curries and biriyani to fried rice, roti, noodles and desserts – there’s something tasty for everyone!
Denzil is an experienced chef who has worked in hotels and, more recently, for a restaurant chain. However, his passion for the cuisine of his native Sri Lanka inspired him to start his first business venture, operating from his home kitchen.
After registering as a new food business with Tameside Council, Denzil was contacted by Business Compliance Support (BCS) officer Ann as part of her proactive programme of support for newly registered food business operators. During their conversation, Ann was able to provide guidance on relevant training courses and explain the requirements of a food safety management system.
Denzil explained: "I worked as a chef in Sri Lanka and now here in the UK, but this is my first time running my own food business.
I already knew a lot about food hygiene from my previous jobs and had completed various courses through my employers, but there are many different rules and regulations to understand in the UK. For example, there is a strong focus on allergen management, so Ann told me about the Food Standards Agency's Allergy Awareness training, which I have now completed.
She also explained the Safer Food Better Business pack, which I need to complete and keep records for. I was pleased to be able to purchase a copy of the pack through Business Compliance Support.
At the moment, we are taking a small number of orders, but in the future I hope to open a restaurant and attend street food markets. It is reassuring to know that I can contact Ann if I need support with regulatory requirements or have any questions."
SDNK Home Kitchen was inspected by Environmental Health at Tameside Council in June 2026 and achieved the top food hygiene rating of 5.
