Chelly's Deli

Chelly’s Deli is a home caterer based in Sale, Greater Manchester making fresh and tasty breakfasts and brunches. The business was recently awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 by Trafford Council.

Prior to their food hygiene inspection, our Trafford Council colleague Grace contacted Aaron, the owner of the Chelly’s Deli to talk about the compliance requirements for his food business.

Grace sent Aaron a range of tips on running a food business, what to expect from a food hygiene inspection and advised him where to find information on various aspects of compliance including how to set up a new food business. While Aaron has run a food business before, he told us that he knows how useful this particular bit of knowledge would be for people who are setting a business up for the first time or simply aren’t sure what they’re doing. He was impressed with the support and advice offered to him.

“Grace gave me lot’s information about what to do before my food hygiene inspection. She told me about what the inspectors are looking for and sent a checklist so I would be prepared and know what to expect. The guidance she gave was really helpful and she even sent me some training links which I’m looking at booking on to. There was also all of the information about allergens which I’ve found extremely helpful. The allergen chart makes it so much easier to quickly identify what allergens are in different dishes on the menu – obviously that’s information that you don’t want to get wrong for your customers and I feel really confident about it going forward.

I also feel very confident about food hygiene in general after speaking with Grace. I was a bit nervous about having an inspector visit beforehand but knowing that they’re there to give helpful advice and guidance with a heads up on what is required changed that.
